Solo Aging: Planning for an Independent Future
A growing number of adults are approaching later life without a spouse, children, or close family members available to provide regular support. These individuals are often called solo agers.
Solo aging does not mean aging alone. It means planning intentionally for the practical, financial, medical, legal, and social decisions that may otherwise be handled by family.
EW Global Foundation is developing educational resources to help solo agers prepare for the future with greater confidence and independence.

A solo ager is an adult who may not have a spouse, partner, adult child, or other close relative available to provide dependable support as they grow older. Some people become solo agers by choice, while others arrive there because of divorce, widowhood, geography, family circumstances, or changing relationships.
Good solo-aging planning begins well before a crisis. It includes identifying trusted people, organizing important records, documenting personal wishes, preparing financially, and creating a reliable support network.
